About the designer, Katrina Alexander
Katrina Alexander designs and makes British
contemporary jewellery from her studio workshop in Brighton.
Her work consists of sterling silver and gold with semi precious stones and is
mainly organic in form. Her influences come from light
effects, textures, shapes and random objects. She particularly enjoys
working using the art of lost wax carving as it enables a real feeling of being
close to the piece due to the intricate carving and sanding of the wax before
casting. Currently a number of pieces made this way can be worn in different
ways, thereby a pendant becomes a ring, and the piece can also be worn in
two different ways to create different looks, thereby creating three
pieces from one.
"Jewellery has always
played a large part in my life - as a child I was always fascinated by my
grandmother and mother's jewels, and as an adult I have always felt undressed
without my jewellery. To me a piece of jewellery can provide comfort, make you
smile, give you confidence or simply delight you - it becomes a part of you."
